Terms of Use
The rules for using FlagFans.
Last updated 9 October 2026
Agreeing to these terms
FlagFans (the website at flagfans.co.uk and the FlagFans iPhone app) is run by Interfulgent Ltd. By creating an account or using FlagFans you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
A parent or carer who adds a child profile agrees to these terms for that profile and for the devices they pair to it.
Short versions for children are at FlagFans rules and Privacy for Kids. Our approach to keeping children safe is at Safeguarding. If a short version and these terms differ, these terms apply.
Who can have an account
- Exploring, studying, quizzes and the flag designer work without an account.
- If you are 13 or over, you can create your own account. Give us a real email address and keep your password to yourself.
- If you are under 13, you cannot create an account. A parent or carer adds you as a child profile from their own account.
- When you sign up, we ask how old you are. Please answer truthfully. If you give an age that is not true, we may close the account.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account.
Parents and carers: child profiles and devices
If you add a child profile, you:
- confirm that you are the child's parent or carer and that you give permission for the profile, as described in our Privacy Policy;
- are responsible for the profile and for how the child uses FlagFans;
- choose which devices you pair to the profile, and keep the pairing codes and your parent PIN to yourself. You can see the paired devices and remove any of them on your family dashboard;
- take care with any note or quiz title you write for the child. It must follow the rules below and passes our content filter first;
- talk with the child about what to do if something worries them. A child's report goes to FlagFans. It does not go to you.
You can withdraw permission or delete the profile at any time from the family dashboard.
Content you share
Some things you create are seen by other people: your display name (on the leaderboard, postcards and challenges), your postcard messages, the names of your challenges, your quiz titles and notes, your shared flag designs and the links you make to share them. For a child profile, the nickname, postcard phrases and design names are picked from lists. You keep ownership of them. By sharing them you give us permission to store and show them as part of FlagFans, for as long as they are shared.
You promise that what you share is yours to share and follows the rules below. A link you share can be passed on by the person who gets it, so share links only with people you know.
Our content filter checks names and typed text before other people can see them. It is not perfect, and the rules apply whether or not the filter catches something.
No objectionable content
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. Do not use FlagFans to create or share anything that is:
- hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise discriminatory;
- harassing, bullying, threatening, or an attempt to intimidate or target a person or group;
- sexually explicit, pornographic, or sexualising anyone;
- violent, graphic, or encouraging violence or self-harm;
- a flag, symbol or name designed to glorify hate groups or terrorism, or to demean a nation, people or religion;
- impersonating another person or organisation, or using a display name that is not yours to use;
- spam, advertising, scams or links to harmful sites;
- illegal, or infringing someone else's rights.
Learning about a flag's history, including difficult history, is welcome. Using one to hurt someone is not.
Do not try to get round our content checks, send unwanted email through the postcard or challenge features, or interfere with the service or other people's accounts.
Reporting and blocking
- Report. Every display name, nickname, postcard, challenge, quiz and shared design from another person has a Report option. A child sees a small flag icon and picks one of four reasons. You do not need an account to report. You can also use the feedback form or email hello@flagfans.co.uk.
- Block. From the same menu you can block a player. Their content is hidden from you straight away. You can see and undo your blocks on your Account page.
We review reports promptly and act on them. An item that a child reports is hidden from children straight away while we review it. An item that 3 different adults report is hidden from public lists while we review it. Our Safeguarding page says how quickly we aim to respond.
What we do about it
If content or behaviour breaks these rules, we may, without warning:
- hide or remove the content, such as a leaderboard entry or a display name;
- freeze an account while we look into it, or permanently close the account responsible. For a child profile, we tell the parent or carer;
- report illegal activity to the authorities.
If you think we got it wrong, tell us through the feedback form or email hello@flagfans.co.uk and we will look again.
Ending your account
You can stop using FlagFans at any time and delete your account from Account. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Our content
The flag information, quizzes, stories, artwork and design of FlagFans belong to us or are used with permission. You may use them for your own learning and share links to them, but not copy them in bulk or republish them as your own.
Accuracy and availability
FlagFans is an educational resource, free to use. We work hard to get the facts right, but flags and their histories are complex and some details are disputed. We provide FlagFans as it is, we may change or withdraw features, and we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law, or our responsibility where the law does not allow us to limit it. Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss arising from your use of FlagFans.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use FlagFans after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction, though if you live elsewhere in the UK you keep any rights you have to go to court at home.
